Man, I miss that office. At one point, I did add a 5th monitor to the array running off a Linux box just to have Synergy running across all 3 operating systems. I even added a laptop to make it 6 screens total. I'll have to check this out when/if I get Win7 at work with multiple computers.

Just googling QC with nothing to do, so here goes:

When I first got into this whole webcomic thing, I was reading Penny Arcade, CAD, Applegeeks and VG Cats. To me, Scott's comic has always been more about gore (and general psychedelia) than humour, though (either that, or he's just not very funny), which gets dull after a while. Haque/Hawk draws well and has nice stories but again: Not terribly funny. PA is great, but virtually all strips are stand-alone, so there's really nothing there to string you along. However, if you're into clever running commentary on what's new in gaming, then there's no-one better than Gabe and Tycho, and their fame is definitely well-deserved.

With CAD, Tim gives you both jokes and a story, but his characters don't ever really change. By the time I gave up following it, Ethan was just as one-note and one-track as he'd been when it all kicked off on their couch. In that respect, QC is infinitely better: The characters have actual depth and change over the course of the series as they wrestle with inner/outer conflicts and relationships.

Aside from QC, however, there's one comic that I follow religiously (though it sadly isn't updated with the same clockwork precision that you get from Jeph) and that's "Order of the Stick". Its characters are mainly 2D, but since it's a fantasy spoof they're meant to be, and if you know anything at all about roleplaying (or, quite often, even if you don't) many of the strips are downright hilarious, even as Rich Burlew manages to tell a skillfully woven story that I seriously need to have on my shelf one day (so far, 5-6 issues of collected strips have been published).

Well, that's all I wanted to say, really: Unless you hate RPGs or D&D with a vengeance, try out OotS. Next to QC, it really is head and shoulders above all other webcomics I've read or glanced at. Have fun, and remember: "Evil is a growth industry" :-)

Forgo the hand-held flashlights and get a head lamp if you can. It frees up a hand so that you can use both hand when working on your vehicle, or keep both hands in your pockets in the cold if you have to hoof it.

Excellent write-up! I'm now looking forward to the possibility of getting Win7 on my computers at work. The whole shake "magic eraser" thing would come in very handy for when I'm trying to find the desktop and want to minimize everything but a single app (usually NetBeans or SSMS).

As far as the "pin to" option for the start bar, it's been around for a while. It's the shortcut bar. Granted, the icons are super tiny and mostly useless, but it's still there.

The search feature may come in handy, too. I'm interested to see how it compares to something like QuickSilver or Launchy (my favorite). Spotlight is a minimalistic comparison. It searches darn near everything but it's intrusive to your monitor real estate. It doesn't have all the fancy command shortcuts or magic ninja command voodoo, but it does what I need -- launch apps quickly without using a frelling mouse.

Gadgets, meh. Libraries, meh. Live previews better? Okay, I'll take that. Not super important, but maybe nice. Of course, I'm working with text/code 99% of my computing life, so I don't know that a live or even freeze-frame preview does me any good.

I also heard a rumor about 3D acceleration over RDP. Now -that- is something I wanna see happen. Bonus points if it's good enough to run video games over a gigabit network connection (or less, but I wouldn't blame them for requiring gigabit). That would give a whole new meaning to a game server!

Maybe I'll give the RC a try on Bootcamp when Apple feels comfortable with it.
